To gain a more complete overview of what takes place when people engage in an act of communication,let us first analyze the process in terms of six specific stages that takes place in the following order:

当人们在进行沟通交流时，为了获得一个更完整的概述，让我们首先分析六个发生在特定阶段发生下列顺序方面的过程：

1.the act of human communication begins with a sender,who decides to initiate a message with a specific set of intended meanings. 人类的沟通行为开始与信息传播者，他决定这组有特定的目意义的消息

2.that sender then encodes the intended meanings by selecting specific words and gestures that the receiver will presumably understand.

3.the messages is then transmitted-spoken or written-so as to cross the between sender and receiver.

4.the receiver,the individual to whom the message is directed,attends to and perceives the incoming message as a specific pattern of symbols. 信息接受者接收和感知具有特定符号模式的信息，并理解这个信息是谁传出的。

5. the receiver then decodes the message by constructing his or her own interpretations of the meanings of the symbols.

6.as aresult of interpreting the message,the receiver is influenced in some way。that is,the communication has some effect.

This is a basic linear model of human communication.it is obvious that such a model greatly oversimplifies the process.Howover,its value is that it permits us to understand each of the stages represented.
