Chapter 22、名词性从句 1.that从句

a.陈述型:

That we need more preactice is quite clear. (主语从句)

It is quite clear that we need more practice.

It occurred to me that he had left for Hongkong.

The fact is that we have fallen behind them. (表语从句)

He believed that he could manage it. (宾语从句)

He takes it for granted that she isn’t going to school on Children’s Day. (it作先行词) I felt it a pity that she missed the lecture.

He asked me to give you a message that he couldn’t attend your bithday party. (同位语从句) b.意向型:

She suggests that he (should) start at once. (宾语从句)

It is necessary that we (should) review our lessons once more.(主语从句)

His order is that everyone leave the building at once.(表语从句)

His suggestion is that we should stay calm. He give the order that everyone leave the building at once.(同位语从句)

c.情感型:

It is strange that he should sell(have sold) his new car.(主语从句)

I found it unbelievable that he should have left without saying “good-bye”.(宾语从句) The unexpected thing is that the old man should refuse such kind help. (表语从句)

We have just got the news that he should marry a woman twenty years older than he. (同位语从句)

2.whether/if从句:

I don’t know whether/if it is true. 下列4种情况, 用whether,一般不用if:

a.与or连用:

I don’t know whether they will come today or tomorrow.

I don’t care whether or not he ttends the meeting. I don’t cre whether/if he attends the meeting or not.(偶尔用,但if和not必须分隔) b.引导主语从句:

It is not clear whether they will come.

c.在句首:

Whether they will come nobody can tell.

d.充当介词宾语:

Our success depends on whether he will help us.

3.wh-从句:

a.疑问型:

Do you know when he will come?

Do you know why he won’t come?

He asked me where I lived.

I asked her how much money she wanted.

Nobody can tell what is his telephone number.
